Handwritten notes on a tan background, featuring blue ink text with numerous cross-outs and edits. There is an outline drawing of a person's face on the left, with a schematic map on the right. The text appears to be describing a geographical location or scene.

Line Editing

The road to hell is paved with adverbs.

- Stephen King

Line editing is an involved look at the nuts and bolts of the writing. Are your sentences clear? Are word choices engaging? Does the tone fit the scene? This is where I’ll ensure that your message shines through on the page, aiming for elegance throughout the journey.

What I will look for when line editing:

  • Clarity and readability

  • Sentence structure and rhythm

  • Tone and voice consistency

  • Word economy

  • Repetitive words or phrases

  • Transitions and paragraph flow

Put simply, the goal here is to tighten up the writing while preserving the author’s voice. I like to think of this part of the process as chipping away the rock to reveal the diamond. Your truth is always there. My job is to help bring it into the light.
